We are delighted to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Business and Politics in 2018. In the past year, we’ve published a number of outstanding articles on topics as diverse as financial regulation, dark money in elections, additive manufacturing, the oil industry behavior in Nigeria, the impact of data completion for development, and corporate social responsibility in India. We continue to grow both in terms of submissions and subscriptions.

We were also delighted to announce the inaugural David P. Baron Award given to the best article of 2017.

The inaugural David P. Baron Award was awarded in 2018 to Jan Fichtner, Eelke M. Heemskerk, Javier Garcia-Bernardo for their article “Hidden power of the Big Three? Passive index funds, re-concentration of corporate ownership, and new financial risk.”.

2018 runners-up were:

“When Banks Lobby: The Effects of Organizational Characteristics and Banking Regulations on International Bank Lobbying.”
Adam William Chalmers

“Data, development, and growth”
Steven Weber

In March 2017, we were proud to publish a special issue “Re-conceptualizing the political economy of finance in the post-crisis era” with guest editors, William K. Winecoff and Travis W. Selmier and in November published a special issue on the Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) with Vinod K. Aggarwal and Simon J. Evenett serving as guest editors.

In our 20th year, we were also excited to announce and build a new partnership with Cambridge University Press. We have worked continuously with their team on the transition and look forward to broadening BAP’s audience, enhancing our ability to contribute to knowledge in the field, and providing a venue for scholars around the world to share their work and continue to engage in debates surrounding the interaction between business and political actors.

From our team here in Berkeley, we wish you every success in 2018.
